BRITISH POLITICAL HISTORY

It probably made sense to elect a parliamentary representative to vote for you when parliament first started, because it probably took some people a few days to travel to Westminster.

But now that we have such good communications what is wrong with the people voting on important issues themselves, we will put Broadband into every home and give the People proper democracy. Give the People referenda.  Parliament will become a debating chamber with the decision made by The British People via e-voting. Thus we will trim down  The Upper Chamber, after all at the moment The Lords are like a load of turkeys voting for Christmas, but we will retain less people there, but the  people left will be  experts on their subjects.

This is even more important now when a manifesto means nothing and the Government and Prime Ministers routinely lie to the people.
